OF HEART-HEALTHY DINING, DANCING AND EDUCATION
Heartfest 2006, an evening of heart-healthy dining, dancing
and education, will have an extra dash of flavor with the
addition of a book signing by local authors John Jiloty,
Dr. Paul R. McHugh, Ramsey Flynn, Miles Harrison Jr., M.D.,Chip
Silverman, Ph.D. and Dr. Peter B. Petersen. A portion of
the proceeds from the sale of the books will be donated
toThe Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Preventive Cardiology Center
(established in 1990 in memory of the legendary Johns Hopkins
University Lacrosse Coach Henry “Chic” Ciccarone).

HEARTFEST AUTHORS:
The Johns Hopkins University Press, America’s
oldest university press will present two new
authors:
John Jiloty, editor-in-chief of Inside
Lacrosse magazine, will feature his new book Undefeated,a
behind the scenes look at the 2005 Johns Hopkins men’s
lacrosse national championship season. Undefeated has
been described as a 216-page masterpiece featuring over
150 full-color photos and a stirring narrative of one
of the greatest lacrosse seasons in school history.
Paul R. McHugh, M.D., the former director
of the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences
at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, will feature his
new book The Mind Has Mountains. This
collection of essays, on psychotherapy, depression, repressed
memories and other timely topics, demonstrates why Dr.
McHugh is one of the most thought-provoking figures in
the academic world.
Other featured authors include:
Ramsey Flynn, associate editor of Hopkins
Medicine magazine. Mr. Flynn will present Cry
from the Deep:The Submarine Disaster that Riveted
the World and Put the New Russia to
the Ultimate Test. It is the intensive
dramatic and definitive account of the Kursk submarine
disaster. In addition, Mr. Flynn will bring copies of
his Esquire Magazine article “You
Haven’t Lived Until You’ve Died” that
reconstructs his heart surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Miles Harrison Jr., M.D. and Chip
Silverman, Ph.D. Drs. Harrison and Silverman
will feature their book Ten Bearsthat
recounts the struggles and victories of Morgan State
College to establish the first and only predominantly
black lacrosse team in the first half of the 1970’s.
ESPN presented a feature on the book during Black History
Month. Presently, a feature film is being negotiated
and a documentary is being produced based on Ten
Bears. Dr. Silverman will also
feature his most recent book Lucky Every
Day as well as Aloha Magnum, The
Block, The Last Bookmaker,
and a limited number of first editions of Diner
Guys.
Dr. Peter B. Petersen, Professor of Management
at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Petersen will offer his
book
The Great Baltimore Fire – the
story of the tragic event and the men and women who in
1904 fought the fire as well as ordinary citizens who struggled
to save themselves and their neighbors.
In addition, copies of The Johns Hopkins Heart
Bulletin and the 2006 edition of the Johns Hopkins Coronary
Heart Disease and Heart Attack Prevention
White Papers will be available. The Bulletin launched

Stevie V. & The Heart Attackers,
the energetic band comprised of cardiologists, cardiac
surgeons, and other health care professionals will perform
music from the 1950’s to the present including rock,
soul and swing. In addition, the bandwill
administer a musical talent test to top Baltimore executives Tim
Rhode, owner of The Maryland Athletic Club and
Wellness Center; Ron Peterson, president
of Johns Hopkins Health System; Bill Brody,
president, Johns Hopkins University and, Steve
Geppi , president and chief executive officer
of Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. and owner and publisher
of
Baltimore Magazine.

include: Celebrity Honoree John Astin, the celebrated
actor, writer, producer, director and full professor
at Johns Hopkins University who has performed in numerous
stage, screen and television productions;
Medical HonoreeDr. Victor A . McKusick ,
the famous Johns Hopkins professor known as The Father
of Medical Genetics who was presented with the National
Medal of Science by President Bush in 2002; and, Community
Honorees Joe and Ozzie Cowan, long-time Johns
Hopkins benefactors. Joe, President of Cowan Transportation,
LLC, who was a star lacrosse player for Johns Hopkins University
was inducted in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and
the Marylnd State Athletic Hall of Fame.
The gourmet dining portion will showcase heart-healthy
cuisine, prepared by many of Baltimore’s
most prestigious restaurants and caterers, complemented
by fine wines from The Wine Merchant.
